Lo How A Rose Ere Blooming

The opening, triple meter, introduction features trombone and trumpet solos. Switching to common time, the first verse begins with moving inner parts supporting the melody, flowing easily to mellow chords over a second trombone pedal. The introduciton motif returns as an interlude/modulation to the second verse, in 6/8, scored in A flat major, which in turn gives way to a 4/4 final verse. The short coda again echos the introduction motif. This would be ideal as an instrumental call to worship, or as an introduction to a presentation of the hymn.
