A short trio introduces the three voices of the flutes before they coalesce on the melody, and then split to two and three-part harmony. A colorful arrangement in which all players get to experience the melody, the parts then modulate and divert to independent lines. The two hymntunes known to "Away in a Manger," are simply yet beautifully intertwined by a third line, folding all three into a gentle conclusion.
