This is a classic hymn with a rich history. "Nearer My God to Thee" were the dying words of assassinated President, William McKinley on September 19, 1901. On that day Americans gathered in churches and other public places and sang the hymn. Eleven years later "Nearer My God to Thee" was played as the "Titanic" sank. For its entire history, this hymn has been a song of comfort and rest. This new arrangement retains that reeling of comfort and repose.
