Voicing: 2-part with opt. piano
Composer: Michael Bedford
This anthem takes familiar prophetic lines from Isaiah 40:3 and intersperses them with a shortened version of the text found in the first stanza of the well-known Advent hymn, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel. The energetic 6/8 meter contributes to a mood of eager anticipation, as do the running eighth-note passages in the optional flute part. In "partner song style," two melodies are introduced at the beginning of the piece which are then sung together building to a joyous, climatic ending. The second melody with its repetitive textual and musical phrases is easy enough for younger elementary singers, making the piece appropriate for younger and older elementary choirs.
