Using only 4 bells in an ostinato pattern based on the opening melody of the anthem, Michael Bedford has fashioned a very exciting piece that is easy to learn and perform. The use of a great deal of thematic repetition aids memorization. Note that the melody of the first, second and fourth stanzas are identical, though the fourth stanza becomes a canon, and the third stanza is set in the minor. If you do not have handbells, try melody bells, or Orff instruments. They would work well on the handbell part.
