These two string ensemble pieces were first performed by White House string players on a recording session of great hymns for strings. The parts are not overly difficult. The harp could be covered by a synth keyboard player - especially one who has an arpeggio effect on the keyboard. If this is not available, just playing rolled chords on a piano would work well also. Both settings are nostalgic, warm, not rousing, and can be played at various tempos - even rather slow ones. "Blessed Assurance" includes an incidental solo part. This packet will permit you to use flute, violin, clarinet, oboe, F horn or muted trumpet as your solo instrument. You could pick a different soloist every time you use the arrangement.
